A song written for a grieving family, and the illustrated book that grew from it — for anyone holding on to someone they love.

The Story Behind “That’s Me!”
This song began as a gift for a grieving family. A dear friend’s nephew, Thomas Woods, passed away at age seven after a battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer. His parents, Angela and JD, shared that Thomas himself was certain that heaven was simply his next big adventure. He told his family that when they missed him, he’d come visit — maybe as an eagle, wrapped in light.
Writing That’s Me became a way to hold that image, and to offer comfort to anyone facing a similar loss. Steve found strength in a passage by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá — the idea that a soul freed from “a small and gloomy cage” soars into a world that is spacious and full of light, and that separation is followed by everlasting companionship.
